Experienced prop Andrew Dawson will bulk up the Haven pack next season after signing a one-year deal with the Betfred Championship outfit.

The experienced former Workington Town and Barrow forward is the fifth new member of Gary Charlton's squad for the 2021 campaign.

And Haven chairman Tom Todd said Dawson, 31, will add some valuable experience to the side.

"The club is delighted to have signed Andrew Dawson. Playing prop forward and with a wealth of experience behind him he will add even more power to the team's pack," he said.

"He made his debut for Barrow in 2012 and was in their squad that twice won promotion to the Championship, so he is very familiar with the game at that level.

"Playing over 170 games he will no doubt be a big asset going forward. I would like to welcome Andrew to the club and again thanks to all concerned who have brought this signing about.”

Dawson said he was looking forward to playing in the Championship again. He added: “I’m delighted to have signed for Whitehaven and I’m looking forward to playing in the Championship again. It is something that I have always wanted to do and I’m grateful to Whitehaven for giving me the opportunity.”

Haven assistant coach Jonty Gorley said: “It's good to have “Brewy” on board he gives us more experience. He’s a good, no-nonsense Cumbrian type of forward who will gain yards well and can defend well.”

Dawson started his professional career with Barrow, making his debut for them in February 2012. In 2018 he moved up the coast to Workington Town on a two year deal before joining Haven.

He has played 174 games in his career at Barrow and Workington Town including two seasons at Championship level with Barrow.
