Youngsters showed off their showjumping skills at a rare event this year due to the impact of coronavirus.

With most Pony Club area events cancelled this year due to Covid-19, members of the Cumberland Foxhounds Pony Club were delighted to be out representing the branch at the recent Cumbria Shield Team Showjumping competition.

The contest was held at Greenlands Equestrian Centre, Carlisle, at the weekend.

Competing in the 40cm class, club members Maisy Noble, nine, of Carlisle, riding Bella, Rebecca Donaughee, nine, of Workington, riding Czar, Sadie Porter, 10, of Hayton, riding Alfie, and Leah Airey, seven, riding Twist, all rode super double clear rounds with the fastest time to take first place in the team event.

The club had also triumphed in the same event a year ago so was pleased to be able to defend its title.

The event, which was organised by Cumberland Farmers Hunt North Pony Club, attracted entries from south-west Scotland and across Cumbria.

Cumberland Foxhounds Pony Club, who have 20 members from across Allerdale, Carlisle and Eden, organise training, events and activities for young riders aged from four to 25.
