Carlisle Academy enjoyed an excellent 105 run home victory over Keswick Cricket Club's Third Team in the EVCL Sunday League at Edenside on Sunday.

Carlisle Academy clinched the victory on the penultimate weekend of the cricket season which was shortened due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Captain Zach Du Plessis did not hesitate in deciding to bat first after winning an important toss.

The skipper led the way with the bat, hitting 34 runs.

Du Plessis was ably supported initially by Connor Currie with 21 and then Aidan Turner with 47 runs not out.

The hosts racked up an imposing 142-6 from 36 overs, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Ned Barnes returned 3 for 7 from 4 overs and was Keswick’s most successful bowler.

The Keswick batting crumbled after the interval and they were all out for 37 as Matthew Smith, William Teasdale, Aidan Turner and Sam Grieve led the Carlisle attack.

Each of the players picked up a brace of wickets.

The win places Carlisle level on points with Stainton's Second Team at the top of the table, as a competitive, all be it truncated season reaches its finale.

Carlisle's Second Team will host Lanercost's First Team at Edenside on Saturday, starting at 1pm.

The game takes place in the EVCL North Division A, while the Third Team makes the reverse trip to face Lanercost's Second Team in the North Division B.

The clubhouse bars will be open from 2pm on Saturday afternoon as the 2020 season concludes at Edenside.
