A CRICKET Club has re-signed a young prospect as their club pro.

Carlisle Cricket Club has re-signed club professional Michael Slack on a new two-year deal, through to the end of the 2022 season.

Slack, 25 cut his teeth in the junior ranks at Carlisle and proved a key member of the club’s 2019 championship winning team that brought the first title to Edenside in 37 years.

During that campaign, Slack totalled nearly 750 league runs at an average of 44 and captured 54 wickets at 12.

It has been a frustrating summer for the Cumbria Cricket League Premier Division Champions with Slack and his teammates unable to defend their league title, but they will return in 2021, aiming to keep the silverware at the Edenside.

Slack said: “I’m very happy to have extended my contract at Carlisle, the club is in an excellent place and has been heading in the right direction for some time.

"We have some exciting young talent coming through and with the help of the experienced players, we can hopefully challenge for more titles in the years ahead”.

Club secretary Mark Davidson added: “Michaels’ signing came on the back of many hard miles put in by skipper Marc Brown and the five year club development plan, along with the outstanding work by our coaching teams, in producing a wealth of home-grown talent."

“Obviously we are all absolutely delighted at Edenside to have secured Slacky for another two years at least, as we look to defend the Premier League crown next season.

“Plans will be formulated in the next couple of months for all levels of cricket at Edenside as we make preparations for the 2021 season.”
