Carlisle’s First Team cricket players returned to form last weekend with a thrilling performance against Keswick.

The side hosted Keswick Cricket Club at Edenside for the latest round of competition in the Lukey's Sports-sponsored Cumbrian tournament.

Carlisle produced innovative batting with Jonathan Davidson hitting seven boundaries and finishing on 63 not out, backed up by 47 from Michael Slack.

Carlisle produced 199-7 at the close. Keswick put up a valiant effort, with Stephen Moss making 40 runs and skipper James McGown racking up 32, but ultimately they were all out for 151.

The returning Fraser Conn put in a strong performance for Carlisle, taking four wickets for just seven runs in eight overs, Josh Sterling picking up another brace of wickets.

And the club’s Second Team continued a strong run on Saturday with a win against Lanercost. They notched up a conclusive 99-run victory in the EVCL North Division A.

Carlisle batted first, taking control from the off with Charlie Hutchinson making 81 runs, James Dawson contributing 32 and skipper Olly Bradley making 24.

They amassed 211-5 in total, and in reply Lanercost were 112-8.

At Edenside on Sunday, Carlisle 3rd XI skipper Will Bell won the toss and elected to bat against visitors Lanercost 2nd XI in the EVCL North Division B.

Carlisle hit their way to an extremely competitive 229-6 as Eddie Mitchell took centre stage finishing on 99 not out. Mitchell struck 14 boundaries, clearing the ropes on four occasions and was deserving of three figures.

Lanercost produced a brave response and were never out of the contest.

Thanks to a fine half century from David Ferguson, backed up by Jack Mitchelson (34), the visitors reached 193-6 at the close with Adam Tiffin finishing with 2-43 for Carlisle.

Tomorrow Carlisle’s First Team face Wigton in a must-win match if they are to maintain hopes of a semi-final place in the Lukey's Sports competition. Play commences at 1pm.

Edenside will host Carlisle 2nd XI v Rockcliffe tomorrow and Carlisle Academy v Penrith Academy on Sunday, both matches starting at 2pm.
