Whitehaven are putting the disappointment of their abandoned season behind them and looking firmly forward to the 2021 Championship campaign.

And the club says it is determined to have a competitive squad to tackle whatever comes at them in the new term.

They have been busy on the scouting front, with the help of a familiar face, in their former coach Stan Martin.

The New Zealander, who spent four years at The Recreation Ground, is now keeping an eye out for fresh talent on the other side of the world for the West Cumbrians.

Which is a positive sign, with some of the players he brought over in his time with the club, becoming firm fans' favourites, including Kiwi trio Aaron

Lester, David Fatialofa and Leroy Joe.

A Whitehaven statement said: "After the announcement of the cancellation of the 2020 season the clubs scouting network, including former coach and now player agent Stan Martin, is pressing ahead with new additions for the 2021 season.

"Despite the Covid-19 lockdown making things a little more difficult than normal the scouting team have been working day and night and plenty of progress has been made.

"All we can say at this moment in time is to watch this space as we expect some exciting announcements to be made in the very near future."
