Carlisle United head coach Chris Beech and director of football David Holdsworth have kicked-off the World Best XI competition.

Football fans are being asked to dream up a team of the best players they have ever seen for the chance to win two match day hospitality places in Foxy’s Restaurant at the club grounds, Brunton Park.

The prize pack includes game tickets for a game of the fans choice taking place in the 2020/21 season.

Fans can enter the competition by donating to Captain Tom Moore’s NHS fundraiser and naming their dream line-up of football greats.

Teams can include any player, from any side and era of the game.

Coach Beech’s fantasy team includes the likes of: Zinedine Zidane, Christiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi, Johan Cruyff and Diego Maradona.

His subs included England legend Bobby Moore, Argentina’s Gabriel Batistuta and Michel Platini of France.

Director of football David Holdsworth had Bobby Moore in the first-team along with Pele, Paulo Maldini, Franco Baresi, Dino Zoff and Franz Beckenbaur. His subs included David Beckham, Gordon Banks and George Best.

The two United bosses agreed on the inclusion of Ronaldo, Pele and Maradona.

Holdsworth said: “There have been a lot of things like this going around and we’ve found it’s a great way to get conversations going with your friends and family.

“We thought it would be good to get our fans involved at a time where we’re all missing the football debate.

He said: “Captain Tom Moore has really captured the hearts of the nation so we’d like fans to donate an amount to him, whatever they can manage, to be entered into our prize draw.

“It’s a bit of fun but, also allows us to donate to the NHS and show our support to a wonderful man at the same time.”

Mr Moore shot to fame when he completed 100 laps of his garden in aid of NHS workers on the front-line of the battle against Covid-19.

Veteran Tom wanted to complete the goal before his 100th birthday on Thursday.

And he was saluted by a Guard of Honour as he crossed the line, raising more than £29 million for the NHS.

Details of how to enter the competition can be found on the Carlisle United website along with a from to include your World Best XI team and proof of donation.
