A much-anticipated second-round tie in the BARLA National Cup saw Hensingham’s under-14s overcome Beverley Braves 34-10 to reach the quarter-finals.

The West Cumbrians showed their quality, with captain Miller Dalton setting up repeated advances from the start.

Romeo Park touched down first after just two minutes of play, quickly followed by a try on five minutes from Luca Hiddleston which was converted on a blustery day by Tom McKinney.

McKinney added the third try just five minutes later, diving over just right of the posts before Hiddleston added the fourth with a swan dive under the sticks, converted by McKinney for a 20-0 lead.

The Braves put in some good attacks in the final 10 minutes of the half and the pressure paid when the visitors scored a converted try for a 20-6 scoreline at the break.

Hensingham’s Ethan Thornton opened the second-half scoring, followed by a second try for McKinney, a third for Hiddleston, and one more McKinney conversion.

A second late try for Beverely was some consolation for the Yorkshire lads, but this was a good win for Hensingham, who are set to face Leigh Miners Rangers at the next stage whenever action resumes.
