Whitehaven AFC’s under-12s girls enjoyed a double success with the conclusion of the West Cumbria Youth League Under-12 Girls’ Futsal divisions.

In the Red Division the final weekend saw a derby match between Whitehaven AFC Blue and Workington Reds Diamonds.

In what was a thrilling game, it was the club’s Blue side who won 4-3 after coming from 2-0 down.

Goalscorers Ella Beadsmoore and Layla Rudd grabbed a brace of goals each, sealing the victory.

A special mention also has to go to Millie Clark, who was a rock at the heart of the defence for the Blues and played magnificently all game.

It was then the turn of the Whitehaven AFC Yellow, who went into their final game against Allerdale Tigers three points clear and knowing anything other than a loss would seal the league for them.

In an extremely tight game where both defences and keepers were on top, it took until the third quarter for the breakthrough when captain Sophie McKee scored for Whitehaven.

In the last quarter Allerdale pushed for an equaliser which allowed Yellow to counter and, after a shot was well saved, Abbie Kegg tucked the rebound away for 2-0.

Lilia Gill and goalkeeper Kacey McGarry were instrumental in a close-fought contest, with the former imperious at the back and the latter pulling off a stunning one-on-one save.

With the winners confirmed, there was only the second-place play-off to play; a three-way tie between Whitehaven AFC’s under-11s, Allerdale Tigers and Workington Reds Diamonds.
