Chris Beech says talks have yet to take place over the goalkeeping coach position at Carlisle United - with Steve Collis still at Brunton Park.

Ex-Rochdale man Collis has been “helping” in the recent absence of Craig Wight, who officially left the club last week.

United have not given any reasons for Wight’s departure while the Scot himself has not yet commented.

Head coach Beech hinted that Collis could remain for longer but said no agreement was yet in place. He said: “I’m happy that Steve’s been able to help us.

“If we can look at developing that goalkeeping area to get stronger and better, hopefully Steve might be able to help us out and work with the club.

“But none of those discussions have taken place. This [Wight’s exit] is sort of new news, so we have to take stock of it, but definitely look to progress our football club.”

Beech said he had had a good rapport with Wight prior to the coach and United going their separate ways.

He said: “Craig’s a great guy, I had a good relationship with him - I invited him to Christmas dinner when I knew he was in Carlisle on his own, I said to come up and spend some time with my family.

“Sometimes you have discussions, and move in different directions.”

United are back in training today having been given yesterday off after their recent exertions. Beech is hoping to have Harry McKirdy back involved, while he will continue assessing trialist midfielder Callum Harris.
