Young Workington swimmers did their club proud at the Cumbria Age Group Championships.

In the 14-year age group, Millie Sandham took first in the 100m and 200m back, qualifying for both county finals, winning the 200m event and finishing sixth in the 100m final. She was second in the 50m back and fly, 200m and 400m free and 200m and 400m medleys and was third in the100m fly, free and medley. Erin Boyles, competing in the para S14 category, took four firsts in the 100m back, breast, medley and 200m free.

In the 15-year group, Charlotte Grimshaw won the gruelling 800m and 1500m free and the 200m back then was second in the backstroke final. She was second in the 200m medley, then fifth in the final, and was second in the 400m free and medley and third in the 100m back. Alexa Atkinson took first in the 200m breast and second in the 50m and 100m breast. She qualified for finals in the 200m and 100m breast and 200m medley, finishing fourth, sixth and seventh respectively. Sophie White took third in the 200m breast and Harriette Barber achieved personal best times in the 50m back and breast.

The 16 and over age group saw Megan Sibbald take second in the 800m and 1500m free and third in the 400m free, Abby Wright fifth in the 50m fly and seventh in the final.

In the 10-year group, Imogen McAllister won the 100m breast and 200m back, was second in the 50m back and breast and third in the 200m free and medley. Anna Smith was fifth in the 50m breast and 100m medley.

The 11-year group saw Jessica Lister third in the 50m and 100m breast and Evie White, in the 12-year group, was second in the 200m breast and third in the 50m and 100m breast.

In the relays, the 10-12 year girls’ free relay of Evie White, Lister, Erin Hayton and Kayla Bales-Riley took second and the medley team with McAllister replacing Hayton finished third. The 13/14 year girls’ A team, consisting of Sandham, Aimee-May Lister, Gracie Smith and Keira Dunlop, finished second in the medley and third in the free, while the B team of Hannah White, Keira Grimley, Poppy Benson and Charlotte Harden were fifth in the medley and sixth in the free with Emily Sibbald standing in for White. The junior girls’ A team – Grimshaw, Atkinson, Sandham and Zara Newby – finished third in their relays, while the B team of Megan Sibbald, Emily Allison, Kira Sooi and Sophie White were eighth in the medley and ninth in the free. The open men’s team of Josh Harden, Ewan Frost, Matthew Farnworth and Craig Heggie were seventh in the medley and free, with Mark Newby replacing Heggie for the latter.
