Carlisle United boss Chris Beech was set to meet a transfer target today as he bids to add more new faces before Friday’s deadline.

The Blues head coach said he also spoke to another potential signing before yesterday’s victory at Forest Green.

United have made five additions so far this month but are understood to be seeking reinforcements in attack and midfield.

Speaking after last night’s impressive 4-1 win, Beech said: “I had a conversation with a player getting on our team bus to come here [to Forest Green] from the hotel.

“It was a good conversation. These things can often not drop in, but I’m hopeful that it will happen.

“In fact I’m [also] due to meet a player in the morning for breakfast. I’m trying to make sure I speak to him before he gets other options or different things come into his head.”

Beech said he was in regular contact with director of football David Holdsworth as they line up potential deals.

Speaking to the media after the New Lawn victory, he said: “It’s all work you don’t see, it’s very tiring actually, I’ve been doing it all day, I even had a recruitment meeting at the hotel, watching DVDs of players.

“I still want to recruit two or three more players to help and add competition for places. David’s supporting that, I’m really pleased with how we’re going about that.

“It’s not just about recruiting, we’re recruiting players with good business transactions.”

With new signings such as Lewis Alessandra, Nick Anderton, Elliot Watt and Joshua Kayode making an early impact, fellow new boy Max Hunt also coming off the bench last night for his second appearance, Beech added: “It’s strategic recruitment, not just recruiting because people are available.

“There’s three, four or five options in what we’re trying to achieve, and some aren’t financially viable, some go a different way due to agents’ considerations, some, if you are trying to loan a player, the club controls where they go, and sometimes the player doesn’t want to come.

“They are all different factors. We’ve got to have our eyes and ears close to the ground, because these things change often.”

Beech did not rule out any departures from his squad before the 11pm deadline on Friday, but last night did not comment on any potential moves.
