Local derby matches were the order of the evening in the JJ’s Workington Pool League.
A League leaders JJ’s took on bottom of the table JJ’s B and the contrasting form showed.
JJ’s A dominated the singles with Stephen O’Hagan securing a single and doubles win on the way to a 6-3 victory.
Another derby saw Station Road C and club rivals from the D team lock horns. The C team was looking to keep their upturn in form going and it seemed to be continuing when Peter Collins fired them 2-1 in front. Wayne King restored parity and then the D team marched on to take it 6-3.
Senhouse Street hosted Flimby where defeat realistically would end their title challenge. With Senhouse 4-1 up a well-taken Steven Lowery clearance ensured the victory as they went on to win 5-4.
Pack Horse A remain joint second with Senhouse as they swept aside Lifeboat A 7-2.
The Grapes looked to ease their relegation worries at home against the Vets and raced into a 3-0 lead. The Vets fought back to level at 4-4 before Andy Hall and Hudson Irving dug deep to secure the points for the Veterans in the final frame decider.
Harrington Legion gave a comprehensive singles display against Station Road B as they won 5-4 to lift them up the table to eighth.
In the B League, another derby saw the Miners teams go head to head.
The WashHouse Miners levelled the tie at 2-2 but the Miners A’s Ashley Hudson put his team ahead and they never looked back, winning 6-3.
The huge upset of the night came as Lifeboat B faced Pack Horse B.
Promotion-chasing Pack Horse B raced into a 3-1 lead before the Lifeboat fought back to level the tie at 4-4. Up stepped Lewis Straughton and Lee Brash to give Lifeboat B the shock 5-4 victory.
Henry’s looked good for a much needed win as they led 2-1at JJ’s C.
JJ’s luck soon changed and they ran out 7-2 winners.
Railway B seemed to be on course to upset the league leaders but the Grapes A rescued the final two frames to win 5-4.
Vinnies Bar had no trouble in beating Seaton Royal Oak 7- 2, while Railway A beat Skinny Jimmy’s 6-3.
