Carlisle United’s game at Oldham this weekend could be hit by a boycott by home fans.

A Latics’ supporters group have called for fans to stay away from Boundary Park in protest at owner Abdallah Lemsagam.

Push The Boundary representatives are tonight set to meet Lemsagam but suggested Saturday's boycott, a course of action agreed after a survey of supporters, would still go ahead.

The fan group have also urged unhappy Oldham fans to attend a non-league game between Avro FC and Ashton Athletic in the North West Counties Premier Division instead.

Group founder Steve Shipman told the Oldham Times: “I’d say it [the boycott] is more likely to go ahead.

“The meeting is only on Thursday and in the same way we can’t tell people to stay away, we now can’t just change our minds and tell them to go to the game now.

“With the way we’ve engaged with Avro and the strength of feeling we’ve had it’s a very difficult decision to reverse.”

It is set to be the latest protest against Lemsagam by fans of the 18th-placed League Two club, who sit three points above Carlisle.

United’s supporters trust CUOSC declined to say whether they were in support of any boycott. It is understood they have not been contacted by the Oldham group organising it.

With Push the Boundary saying it is up to individuals to decide whether to attend or not, it is understood CUOSC are leaving it to their members to do the same.

Oldham, meanwhile, tonight announced the signing of former AFC Fylde striker Danny Rowe on an 18-month deal, for an "undisclosed" fee. He could make his debut against Carlisle.
