Carlisle United will face a trip to Reading or Blackpool in the FA Cup Fourth Round if they get past Cardiff City in next week's replay.

The Blues will either go to the Royals, 14th in the Championship, or Pool, who are 11th in League One, if they get the better of the Bluebirds.

Like United and Cardiff, Reading and Blackpool drew 2-2 on Saturday.

Their Third Round replay will be held at Blackpool's Bloomfield Road next Tuesday, with Carlisle's rematch with Cardiff likely to be the following day.

If United make it through and face Mark Bowen's Reading, it would be a first visit for the Cumbrians to the 24,000-seater Madejski Stadium.

The last meeting between the clubs was a 2-2 draw at Reading's former home Elm Park in May 1982, in the old Third Division.

They have faced Simon Grayson's Blackpool much more recently in league and cup, the last encounter a 2-1 Blues victory in the Leasing.com Trophy in October at Brunton Park.

United's last trip to Bloomfield Road saw a 2-2 League Two draw in September 2016.

They have faced neither side in the FA Cup before.

It is a fourth consecutive away draw for Carlisle in this season's competition, having been handed trips to Dulwich Hamlet, Forest Green and Cardiff so far.

The Fourth Round ties will be played on the weekend of Saturday, January 25.

Carlisle and Cardiff have yet to confirm details of their Third Round replay.

Some £135,000 in prize money will be up for grabs in that game, with £180,000 on offer for Fourth Round winners.

The draw was made by former Lionesses player Alex Scott and ex-Leeds boss David O'Leary at the Emirates Stadium ahead of the Gunners' tie against Leeds.
