Wigton Motor Club completed their year’s events with their Festive Autotest and Production Car Autotest at Lillyhall.

There was a capacity entry with drivers coming from as far as Dumfries and Barrow to take part.

The event counts in the WMC overall and Autotest Championships and was the first round of the 2020 series.

David Wiggins, Chris Hunter and their team set out four excellent tests which were run five times, giving a total of 20 tests and nearly 600 total runs between the 10.30 start and the finish at 2.30.

The advantage of an indoor paddock and the club caravan for refreshments were welcomed when a slight drizzle hit the event in the afternoon but for the competitors it made the conditions just more interesting.

The battle for the overall victory was always between Craig Stamper and Peter Wright, the Peugeot and mini drivers rarely being more than the odd second apart but a cone penalty cost Peter ten seconds and they finished thirteen seconds apart have a brilliant display of driving.

In third place overall, and winner of the production car autotest, was Ian Wozencroft in his Mazda MX5 with autotester Jack Palmer in fourth place in his Rover which seemed to have an unusual liking for cones on this event!

Drew Maclean was just one second behind in his MX5, again being in the PCA.

Rob Iveson was next up in his Ford Ka and taking the PCA FWD class.

Geoff Rae was next with Phil Hodgson in his mX5 taking the RWD class award in his MX5.

The first lady was Fiona Tyson and 14 year old Jack Long was the first junior.

The next round of the championships is on January 26th with the first autosolo of the season.
