Annan Athletic face a crunch game tomorrow in their bid to claim a Scottish League Two play-off place.

The Galabank side travel to Cowdenbeath for the third meeting of the season with honours even so far.

For while the Blue Brazil won the first encounter 3-1, Annan took the points in a 1-0 victory at Galabank.

Fourth-placed Annan are two points and one place behind tomorrow’s hosts, and have no injury concerns after Saturday’s 3-2 home win over Queens Park.

Secretary Alan Irving said: “It was a good win in the end because Queens Park were really pressing and could have scrambled a draw.

“Overall, though, Peter Murphy has assembled a good, young squad and we are hopeful of going one better than last year when we lost in the play-off final to a controversial penalty against Clyde.

“We really think a lot of Peter here and we were surprised, but pleased, that Carlisle United did not express an interest recently.

“Their loss is our gain because Peter is learning his trade with us and doing it well. I feel sure he is going to manage at a higher level in the future.

“We had actually finished interviewing for our manager’s job when we got a call from Ian McCall at Ayr to say we had to interview Peter. I’m ever so glad we took his advice.

“It would be nice if he could get us into League One before he does move on and I do think we have a chance.”

Tommy Muir (2) and Nathan Flanagan scored the goals which saw Annan through against Queens Park.
