So here we go, our final race meeting of 2019!

Sunday sees our annual pre-Christmas finale when we will have plenty of top-quality racing on the track while the paddock will be awash with festive jumpers of a wholly different variety!

Our ‘Jumper for a Jumper Day’ will see a prize given out for the best festive woolly worn by a racegoer.

We’ve seen some wonderful knitwear down the years and I fully expect Sunday to be no different.

Cumbrian folk love their racing, both jumps and the flat, and we are really hoping for a bumper end of year fixture.

The big race of the day is the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle. This Class 2 hurdles race comes with a £12,000 prize for the winner and has attracted plenty of quality entries.

Among those is locally trained Justatenner. This Tristan-Davidson-saddled eight-year-old won last time out at Ayr, back in November, which was a sixth career triumph.

Harriet Graham’s Aye Right posted second at Carlisle last time out which came after an impressive win at Kelso back in September.

Another Kelso winner this season is Keith Dalgleish’s One Night In Milan who followed this up with a very credible second at Aintree last Saturday.

The Handicap Hurdle is one of eight cracking races we have on Sunday.

There are some really intriguing match-ups which feature the jockeys, trainers and, of course, the horses which have already made this a jumps season to remember here at Carlisle.

While Sunday’s marks our 25th and final meeting of the year, we are already looking ahead to Monday, February 3, and our first meeting of the new decade.,

Planning for next year is well underway and we were delighted to, earlier this week, announce our headline music act for summer 2020.

Chart-toppers Rudimental will bring their acclaimed DJ set to Cumbria for an open-air concert on Saturday, July 4.

The group will follow in the footsteps of this summer’s DJ headliner Sigala in hosting one of the most anticipated nights of the season.

This BRIT-Award winning group has sold more than 4.3 million singles in the UK and the reaction we have received since making the announcement on Monday suggests this is going to be a great night next summer.

But before that we can’t wait to bring the curtain down on another incredible year here at Carlisle Racecourse and it would be great to see you here.

n GATES open at 10.20am and the first race is 11.50am. For full details of all race meetings at Carlisle Racecourse visit carlisle.thejockeyclub.co.uk
