Carlisle United are back in competitive reserve action this afternoon.

The Blues face Championship opponents Wigan in their second Central League Cup fixture.

The game, against the Latics’ under-23s, is being played at Penrith’s Frenchfield Park and is open to the public.

It is likely to see Carlisle field a mixture of first-team fringe players and youth team players against Nick Chadwick’s visitors.

The Cumbrians enjoyed an emphatic 4-0 win at Morecambe in their first group game, Aaron Hayden scoring twice with Stefan Scougall and Elias Sorensen also on target.

The pitch at Penrith passed an inspection early this morning, after heavy rain yesterday.

Kick-off today is 1pm and entry is £2, or free for season-ticket holders on production of their season ticket.
