Speedy three-quarter Calvin Wellington will be back at Derwent Park next season after signing for Workington Town.

The centre / winger impressed for Town after joining the club halfway through last season and has earned a return to help them to target promotion again next year.

He made eight appearances for the club, plus one from the bench, and scored two tries as the team reached the League One play-offs.

Wellington said: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Town last season and that made the decision to sign on again very easy.

“It’s a great club with talented players and an excellent coach and coaching team.

“I look forward to getting a good pre-season under my belt as we look to challenge for promotion again next season.

“I’m excited and focused to start next season with the club and my team-mates and work hard for the best results that our dedicated fans deserve.

“I really want to embrace the special family ethos this great club has.”

Wellington came through the academy at St Helens before joining Welsh rugby union side Dragons.

He added speed and strength to Town when he came in under head coach Chris Thorman, who liked what he saw.

“We’re really pleased that Calvin is with us for 2020,” he said.

“When he played last year he gave the team a real boost and gave us some real quality on an edge.

“As an outside back he has a lot of the physical attributes needed to succeed at the highest level.

“If he has a strong pre-season I am confident that he can be one of the best centres in the competition.”

Wellington’s signing follows the arrival of former Coventry ace Elliot Hall last week, who was snapped up after impressing with 17 tries and 12 goals last season.
