Egremont Rangers have donated a strip to Whitehaven star Jessie Joe Parker for him to send back to Papua New Guinea.

Jessie has been sending strips back home for the last five years and other local amateur clubs have helped in the past, with Kells offering one for him to take over last year.

He explained: “I started a team off for the boys back home where it’s often very difficult to get proper full kits.

“Wath Brow and Kells are among those who have helped me before and this time Egremont very kindly offered.

“I know the boys will be really delighted to receive this Egremont kit.”

This is the first year since Jessie arrived in Britain to play at Featherstone that he hasn’t gone home in the winter.

Indeed, it’s a big year ahead as he has applied for residency after plying his trade here for 10 years.

He joined Featherstone in 2010 and after briefly signing for Wakefield he joined Whitehaven in 2012 and has been a fixture ever since.

“I’m hoping that if my residency is accepted I will be able to have a benefit next season as it will be my 10th year in the British game,” he said.

The popular 34-year-old centre, capped 13 times for Papua New Guinea, suffered a few injury setbacks last season but is raring to go for Whitehaven’s return to the Championship.

He made 15 appearances during Haven’s promotion campaign this year.
