Boss Steven Pressley says he is pleased with Nathan Thomas’s reaction to last week’s training-ground episode at Carlisle United.

The forward is pushing for a recall at his former club Plymouth today after returning as a sub against Blackpool on Tuesday night.

That followed Thomas’ omission from the squad after illness and reportedly refusing to do extra training,  the player subsequently apologising to Pressley.

The Sheffield United loanee hit the post in a positive cameo performance against Blackpool and could face one of his old clubs this afternoon.

Pressley said: “Nath can be his own worst enemy at times but I really like the boy.

“Underneath all that I really have a good relationship with him and I want that to continue.

“I was pleased with the way he went about things [on Tuesday]. It’s the type of reaction I want from Nathan.

“He’s a kid that’s maturing all the time in certain aspects, and we had a good conversation the other day. We’re really comfortable where we are.

“It was important for him that he came on and gave the reaction he did.

“The one that hit the post was absolutely vintage Thomas, he gets in that position, just opens it up, it’s there for him and it’s only inches that it doesn’t go in.”

Thomas made 24 appearances for Plymouth from 2013 to 2015 under former Blues boss John Sheridan.
