Border City ABC held its first annual open event of the season at a sold out Hilltop Hotel in Carlisle, with the club having 15 boxers taking part.

They were involved in two skills bouts and 13 scoring contests, picking up 10 wins on the night.

City’s national schoolboy champion John Joe Carrigan claimed a unanimous win in a return bout with Midlands champion Josh Homfray from Brooklands ABC, Wolverhampton.

And clubmate Jack Turnbull picked up a split decision victory against fellow England representative Jack Edge, from Jimmy Egan’s ABC, Manchester.

The bout of night went to City’s Isaac Carrigan who claimed an impressive win against Scotland’s Jack Smart from the Rob Roy ABC.

Best schoolboy boxer went to John Joe Carrigan, and best junior went to Isaac Carrigan.

City’s senior super-heavyweight Ike Ogbo never got to box on the show as he was in action on Sunday.

Ogbo travelled to Manchester to box in the national senior development championship quarter-finals, where he was up against Midlands champion Michael Lindsey who was representing Newark ABC.

The City boxer scored a victory in a thrilling contest to move forward to this weekend’s national semi-finals held at Ayecliffe in the North East.

City are now working towards their next show on December 7.
