Workington Reds should have their two top-scorers back in the squad for tonight’s FA Trophy preliminary round replay against Droylsden.

Reds welcome Saturday’s opponents to Borough Park (7.45pm kick-off) after a 1-1 draw which they earned without Nathan Waterston and Dav Symington, who have a combined 12 goals already this season.

But Waterston, who missed out with a knock, and Symington, absent to attend a wedding, are expected to be back in the squad in a major boost for manager Danny Grainger.

Reds’ coaching staff are set to assess whether Brad Carroll or Gari Rowntree could be available after the former pulled up during the warm-up on Saturday while the latter left the game after pulling his hamstring late on.

He said: “We’ll be fine, Dav will be back, Nathan should be back.

“I think this game just came a little bit soon for Nathan and Dav was obviously away for personal reasons so there are two lads that will be straight back into the squad.

“Obviously Gaz is going to be touch and go and then it’s just a case of reassessing whether we put young Harry [Atkinson] in or myself.”

Reds took the lead in Saturday’s clash at the Butcher’s Arms Ground when Ash Kelly stabbed the ball into the back of the net from a Conor Tinnion cross.

But former Reds player Andy Langford headed in from a corner and neither side was able to find a winning goal in the time left.

Grainger admitted he felt the draw to take the tie to a replay was probably a fair outcome after both sides had their moments.

He said: “I think it probably was.

“Droylsden probably first half edged the chances and I thought they could have been a couple of goals to the good.

“We were a little bit sloppy with our play to be honest with you, I thought we didn’t use our energy and again I think when you come to places like this you’ve got to be at the top of your game to ensure you don’t give up chances.”

He conceded his side have been vulnerable at set pieces this season which he believes is a result of focusing on footballing skill rather than physical attributes.

Victory tonight would earn Reds £2,250 and a first round qualifying round trip to either Tadcaster Albion or Brighouse Town, which would be played on Saturday, October 26 at 3pm.

A defeat would mean an exit from the competition but would still bag Reds £750.

Reds are set to return to NPL North West Division action on Saturday when they host Runcorn Linnets after a 1-1 draw at Runcorn last month.
