Captain Tom Lucock admits Carlisle Futsal Club were thrilled to get their new season off to a winning start with a 10-3 success over Leeds Super Eagles.

At Penrith Leisure Centre on Sunday, in front of more than 100 spectators, Lucock led the way with a hat-trick.

Ryan Errington and Jord Hodgson both bagged braces, while Dan Anderton, John Heyes and Jack Senior were also on the scoresheet in the National Futsal League’s Championship North clash.

"It was good. It was good leading the lads out as captain," said Lucock, who has played football for Carlisle City and Gretna 2008.

"We started the game well, controlled the game and they didn’t really have any offensive threat in the first 10 or 12 minutes, as we got ourselves 6-0 up.

"We then made a few changes, and they only had one sub which kind of worked in our favour. We controlled the game well."

On being handed the captain’s armband, Lucock added on Carlisle's website: “There are a few lads here that have played before, and are a bit more experienced than me [at playing Futsal], but they have, obviously, seen potential in me.

“They have decided to go with me as captain, so I’m pleased with that.”
