Workington Town’s season may have ended at the weekend as they slipped out of the Betfred League 1 play-offs at the hands of Newcastle Thunder.

But fans will have plenty of memories from their efforts of Chris Thorman’s men this season as they look to establish themselves.

There are plenty of players who could take our accolade as readers’ player of the year – who can forget the efforts of retiring skipper Ollie Wilkes? – but the decision lies firmly with you.

To vote, send your selection via email only to sport.ts@cnmedia.co.uk with ‘Town POY’ in the subject line. The deadline for votes is midnight next Thursday (October 3).

PERRY SINGLETON

The strong-running centre is most definitely a fans’ favourite with his ability to forge through gaps and find his way to the try line.

Perry is a player who has definitely improved as the season has worn on and many defences struggled up against his sheer determination. He is also not one to shirk in defence, saving Town on several occasions by wrapping up the opposition out wide.

CARL FORBER

Definitely the voice of experience in the side, Carl has been crucial with his kicking game throughout the season.

His level-headedness is key to forming an attack going forward and his quick thinking has got the team out of several holes.

Forber has finished the season as the club’s top points scorer, with his pin-point accuracy seeing him slot goals in between the uprights from all over the field.

ANDREW DAWSON

One of the cornerstones of the Workington Town pack, Dawson never shirks from putting in the hard yards.

Strong and committed Dawson has bust apart many a defence with his bullocking runs and has fans up standing to appreciate his efforts.

Whether he is used from the start or off the bench, Dawson’s impact is felt immediately and his strong tackling technique ensures that not many get past him.

DANNY TICKLE

Quietly consistent, Danny has a wealth of experience at every level of the game behind him and he has brought that wisdom to Derwent Park.

Still more than capable of directing play, his committed running and tackling game have made him a key part of Town’s squad in 2019.

He has been a leader on and off the pitch, with Chris Thorman hailing him a great force to have in the dressing room.

STEVIE SCHOLEY

The Maryport-born prop just seems to get better each season.

Under the guidance of coach Chris Thorman, Scholey has certainly upped his potential and is now more than capable of putting in an 80-minute stint.

A firms fans’ favourite for his powerful running style and dogged determination, Scholey is often the first to put his hand up and take the ball in, even in the toughest of situations.

CAINE BARNES

The former Wigan youngster has returned to his roots to play for his hometown club after spending time at Super League outfit Wigan.

The talent that Wigan saw in him has come to the fore for Workington. A strong running forward who would have made more appearances and perhaps scored more tries but for a troublesome injury.
