Manager Andy Coyles admits in-form young Penrith AFC star Max Brown is providing the Bonny Blues with a range of forward options.

Former Carlisle United striker Brown, 20, scored his fifth goal of the season in last weekend’s 2-1 loss against Consett AFC.

Against the Steelmen, Brown started on the wing, but finished the game at Frenchfield Park up front and grabbed a consolation goal.

While insisting Brown is not giving him a selection headache, Coyles accepted he is giving him quite a few forward options.

“I wouldn’t say a selection headache, but he has scored again up top. He does give us a few options because he can play up front or whether we maybe go to three up front,” he said.

"Width is really important, and we are lacking wingers, really. We know Max can do a good job there.

"We had a tactic in mind for Max to try and nullify one of their [the Consett] players [last Saturday], which I think he did relatively well.

"When he went up top, he did alright for himself. He made some good runs and he, obviously, contributed with a goal."

Having also announced the re-signing of experienced frontman Ryan Errington, Coyles also expects Jonny Studholme to be back fit in time for today’s match against North Shields (3pm kick-off).

“They are similar to Consett, they have struggled with a few [bad] results of late. It’s one of those where you are not sure which North Shields will come to Penrith,” Coyles said.

“But we should have Jonny Studholme back fully fit.”

Meanwhile, ahead of this afternoon’s match, Penrith have invited the club’s new disability junior team along to be guests for the day.

Chairman Brian “Billy” Williams said: “Our football club has long been at the heart of our community.

"We are a family club that continues to grow thanks to the volunteers who dedicate their time to the club, and the local businesses who sponsor us.

"We are delighted with the support that Chris [Kolek, the coach of the pan-disability team] and his new team received from The FA and the Football Foundation [through a £1,500 grant] and now, with support from our club and the kind sponsorship received from two businesses, we aim to firmly establish this new team.”
