There has been more success for Carlisle Villa ABC to celebrate from their last two away trips.

Featuring on both Northallerton Boxing Club’s open show and St John’s ABC’s memorial show on Saturday, Villa boxer Evan Ford claimed two wins.

Villa debutant Craig Kingston also won his bout at Northallerton, while Orlando Quinn was also victorious.

In total, three Villa boxers travelled to Yorkshire to take part in Northallerton’s show at The Forum, Northallerton.

First up for the Carlisle club was Tyler Brockbank who fought Will Murray from the host club in a skills contest. Brockbank worked well throughout the non-scoring contest.

Ford, 16, was next up for Villa and was matched against another local lad in Kaine Elgie in a 60kg junior contest, which consisted of three, two-minute rounds.

Starting well, Ford forced the Yorkshire lad on to the ropes with some sharp jabs, where Ford worked to the head and body, although not much was getting through Elgie’s guard.

The jab was Ford’s best option and this allowed him to follow up with powerful shots to the head and body as he continued to attack but, once again, the tight guard of Elgie did the job of protecting the target area.

As the second round got under way, Ford continued working well behind his jab, with little coming back from Elgie. Indeed, a couple of powerful uppercuts from the Villa lad to the body took the wind out of Elgie.

Elgie was struggling to cope with the pace of the bout and, despite Elgie surviving to hear the final bell, Ford was awarded an unanimous win.

Up next for Villa, making his boxing debut, was 38-year-old Kingston who was matched against Jamie Mitchel who was representing Newcastle’s Kenton ABC.

It proved to be a great contest between the two fighters, but there can be only one winner and it was Kingston who had his hand raised as he won the contest by a unanimous decision.

Then, on Saturday, four Carlisle Villa boxers made their way to Manchester to take part on St John’s memorial show which takes place in memory of Macauley Moran who died in 2014.

Brockbank was first up for Villa in a non-scoring skills bout against a home boxer.

Quinn, 13, was next up in a schoolboy contest against Maelor ABC lad Ethan Finney. In the end, Finney did well to get to the final bell but lost out to the relentless Quinn by a unanimous decision.

Ford also won on the same show but Villa team-mate, 17-year-old Brian Watson, lost to Tom Howley by a split decision.
