Cumbrian all-rounder Ben Stokes has been named in England's team for their first Ashes Test against Australia.

With the series set to start tomorrow at Edgbaston, Cockermouth's Stokes is expected to be play a vital role in the series as captain Joe Root's team look to regain the urn.

Rory Burns and Jason Roy open for England while, as expected, Root is at three and Canterbury-born Kent batsman Joe Denly is expected to bat at four.

Chris Woakes, Stuart Broad and James Anderson make up England's seam attack, alongside Stokes, meaning there is no place in the team for Jofra Archer.
