Carlisle United have announced the loan signing of striker Olufela Olomola on a season-long loan from Scunthorpe United.

Olomola, 21, becomes the Blues' 10th summer recruit after United also signed Aaron Hayden today.

He is a former Arsenal youth graduate who made his move to Southampton at a very young age. He went on a half-season loan spell from the Saints to Yeovil at the start of the 2017/18 season and made a real impact with seven goals in 21 league appearances.

His exploits at Huish Park earned him a three-year contract with Scunthorpe when he left Southampton in the summer of 2018, and he returned for a second half-season term with the Glovers at the start of last season.

"Olufela is one of three we’ve been trying to bring in, and I’m delighted that we’ve got him over the line," manager Steven Pressley said.

"He’s a player who had a really good period in his career at this level when he went to Yeovil, so he knows what this division is about. He scored seven goals in 18 starts when he was with them and that earned him a very good move to Scunthorpe.

"It hasn’t quite worked for him there for a number of reasons, there’s been a lot of change there, so he’s a player who is hungry to prove himself.

"He’s already shown that, if he’s given the chance and he feels that he’s in the right environment and at a place where he can play the way he likes playing, that he can score goals."

"He isn’t the tallest striker but he’s strong, robust and he can play comfortably with his back to goal. Bringing others into the game is a real attribute of his, and that’s important to us because we need that type of player," Pressley added on United's website.

"Along with that, he’s also a very good finisher, with both his right and left foot, and hopefully he’ll help to bring the goals we need within the team."

The loan deal is subject to a recall clause in the January transfer window, and to the clearance of all relevant paperwork.
