More than three decades after he last raced on the circuit, former Formula 1 star David Coulthard was back at Rowrah to support his son Dayton in the prestigious Little Green Man Championships.

Coulthard’s final race at Rowrah was during the 1987 British Championships before he embarked upon a highly successful career in motorsport.

Four years earlier he had been Cumbria Kart Club’s Junior Champion.

Dayton, 10, was competing in only his second kart race and, with 57 other cadet drivers lined up against him, he found the going very tough indeed.

The honours in this class eventually went to Kean Nakamura-berta, a Japanese driver from Hertfordshire.

For a long while it looked as though local racer Jessica Edgar, of Ennerdale, would claim victory in the X30 Mini category as she started the final from pole position. However, Edgar eventually had to settle for second, just a yard or so behind Oliver Greenall, of Essex. Edgar’s result was sufficient to consolidate second place in the championships.

The Junior class was won by Josh McLean, from Ashby De La Zouch, while Rotherham’s Thomas Turner experienced little difficulty in storming to victory in the Senior final.
