Steven Pressley says Carlisle United are “having to be more patient” with their pursuit of strikers.

The Blues boss admitted the club are still waiting to get loan signings into the building.

Pressley says the identities of United’s main forward targets have not changed.

It is, though, taking longer than hoped for their parent clubs to release the players.

Carlisle’s attacking numbers remain seriously short of numbers with the new campaign 17 days away.

Pressley said: “I thought I would have some news at this moment in time but still nothing imminent.

“We are still pursuing the same players, it’s just we’re having to wait a bit longer.

“Trust me, we are trying, I just don’t want to go and sign the wrong players – I want to sign the correct players for this club.

“We are working hard, trying to get the players in. I must make you understand it has to be the right players.”

Asked if he was pursuing the same deals as he has previously referred to – including a Championship striker who he believes will be United’s main frontman in 2019/20 – he said: “Yes. The same deals, the same clubs.

“We’re very hopeful they’ll work.

“We’re also working on another couple of aspects, and we also need a couple of midfield players.

“[We need] three or four main strikers, several midfield players and probably another defender. We’ve got a lot of work to do.

“I want to get the right players in, so I don’t want to panic.”
