Carlisle United will face Wolverhampton Wanderers' under-21s in the EFL Trophy.

The top-flight club were drawn in Carlisle's northern section group G today.

Wolves join the Blues, Morecambe and Blackpool in the group.

It will see the Midlands club's team make the 366-mile round trip to Brunton Park for a fixture in the 2019/20 campaign.

The lower-league clubs were put into groups prior to today's draw involving the "invited" top-flight clubs which was live on TalkSport.

Wolves' development squad is coached by the club's former defender Rob Edwards.

Group stage games in the competition have often seen record low crowds with some fans boycotting the competition over the involvement of so-called "B Teams".

In an EFL survey published yesterday, the league claimed the trophy had a "growing appeal" and urged clubs to "educate" fans who were not yet sold on the benefits of a run in the competition.

The trophy does not yet have a sponsor after the end of Checkatrade's three-year association.
