Former Carlisle United assistant manager Tommy Wright is back in football - with one of the Blues' League Two rivals.

The Scot has joined the first-team coaching staff at Swindon.

The Wiltshire club today confirmed Wright, 53, has linked up with Richie Wellens' set-up and is with the Robins squad in La Manga.

The move will see Wright work with former Blues loan striker Jerry Yates at the County Ground.

They will face Carlisle on the second weekend of the new league season in Wiltshire.

United parted company with Wright and fellow first-team coach Paul Murray shortly after the end of last season.

The pair had been brought in by ex-boss John Sheridan and continued to work under Steven Pressley after the latter's appointment in January.

Wright was joint caretaker manager at Carlisle for two games after Sheridan's mid-season departure to Chesterfield.

The experienced coach is, along with two other men, due to stand trial in October for bribery, having pleaded not guilty to two charges relating to alleged offences in 2016.

Carlisle have since appointed Gavin Skelton as assistant manager.
