Workington Reds' friendly against Barrow AFC will no longer be played at Borough Park.

Reds were due to host the Bluebirds on Saturday (3pm ko) in their only home game of the pre-season campaign.

The fixture has now been moved and it is expected that it will be played at Holker Street, although the new venue has not yet been confirmed.

Weather delays to the pitch work at Derwent Park have forced Workington Town to play another home game at Borough Park this weekend and the ground will also be available to them for the following weekend, pushing back the start of Reds' remedial pre-season ground work to July 22.

Manager Danny Grainger said: “Of course we would have preferred to play the match at Borough Park, in front of our home fans.

"But we have to protect our players, especially with the effort they are putting in, getting ready for the start of the season.

"Barrow will give us a stern test wherever we play them, and we’re grateful that they will host the match.”

Chairman John Mackay added: “The board of directors has a plan in place to ensure that the pitch is football ready at the earliest possible date.’’
