The split to form a Premier Division and a First Division had a quiet start in the Cumberland Amateur Rugby League.

Only one game in each section was played at the weekend but they were both well contested affairs.

In the Premier Division Wath Brow A were 26-10 winners at Egremont A after the game had been too close to call at half-time.

The Hornets led 8-6 but were able to pull away in the second-half as they finished with five tries to their hosts’ two. Callum Aitken and Toby Corrie crossed for Egremont, with one conversion by Billy Thompson.

The Wath Brow tries were scored by Curtis Teare (2), Adam Meagan, man of the match Ellison Holgate and Jordan Cricket. Teare converted three.

In the final game of the full-sized Cumberland League, Ellenborough A had shocked Kells A with a win which condemned the Copeland side to League One for the second-half of the season.

In the opening game of the second-half in Division One, Elbra were at it again with an exciting 34-30 win at Lowca. They had seemed on course at half-time, leading 22-10, but it got a bit tighter after that.

Lowca’s tries came from Jamie Haile (2), James McNally (2), Kieran Murray and Brandon Groggins. There were three conversions with one each by Aiden Pirie, Tony Hetherington and Groggins. Their Man of the Match was Emmerson Allen.

Elbra’s tries were scored by Niall Gray (2), Owen Hoyles, Louis Fearon, Dean Scholey and Jordan Ostle. Hoyles kicked four goals and there was one for Ostle. Elbra’s Man of the Match was Jason Graham.

The only other game was in the BARLA Cumbria Cup in which Kells A surprised reigning Cumberland League champions Distington with a 30-19 victory.

It was a bit of a turn-around because at half-time Distington were 19-12.

The Kells tries were scored by Barry Boyd, Kieran Fleming, David Lowery, Callum Kinrade and Johnny Scott with five goals from Cameron Taylor. Tyrone Dalton was their Man of the Match.

For Distington the tries were scored by Man of the Match Kelvin Lynch, Gavin Martin and Bryan Ritchie.

Martin kicked three goals and there was a field-goal from Scott George.
