Steven Pressley says super-fit new signing Harry McKirdy was one of the best finishers on Aston Villa’s books.

The forward is one of several new recruits hoping to impress in these early stages of pre-season.

Pressley says the 22-year-old has already caught the eye in United’s fitness work.

He also says the young player, released by Villa in the summer, has bags of potential.

“I see him as a player who can play anywhere in the front three, but generally more of a wide striker role,” said Pressley of the former Newport loan player.

“He’s a terrific finisher - I would say in Villa itself he was one of their best finishers in the club.

“He is energetic and in the running testing [last week] he was our best performer

“He is sharp, fast and has got goals in my opinion.”

On how he sees an attacking line-up forming next season, Pressley added; “I like to play with a front three where one maintains width but the other two are more like a main striker and a side striker.

“I see [McKirdy] more as a side striker.”
