Carlisle United co-owner John Nixon has kept his place among the EFL hierarchy after being re-elected to the League's board.

The Blues' "director of external affairs" will continue as League Two representative at the EFL's top table, a position he has held for the last three years.

Nixon, one of the Cumbrians' owners since 2008, was again chosen by fourth tier clubs to represent them in the 2019/20 season.

His re-election was confirmed by the League today as they announced the other divisional representatives.

Derby chief executive Stephen Pearce will join Reading's Nigel Howe and Bristol City's Mark Ashton on behalf of Championship clubs.

Fleetwood's Steve Curwood and Burton's Jez Moxey will represent League One clubs, with Nixon there on behalf of League Two.

Executive chair Debbie Jevans will also join the board along with new independent non-executive director Simon Bazalgette.

The League are also seeking a new chief executive following the recent departure of Shaun Harvey.

Nixon has faced criticism from some United fans over his various roles in the game beyond Brunton Park in recent years.

The director also sits on the FA Council, has in the past chaired the FA Cup committee and is chairman of the EFL Trust.

He also represented League One clubs on the EFL board prior to United's relegation in 2014.

Some supporters have felt Nixon's retention of such roles is a potential barrier to regime change at Brunton Park.

The former Blues managing director last summer, though, said his "external" roles did not "detract from Carlisle United".

At a fans' forum Nixon conceded that tangible benefits to Carlisle from such positions "were very few", but claimed the "profile of the club" was "enhanced" by his involvement, and it had been useful in strengthening contacts with other clubs.
