Chris Thorman says his Workington Town side are ‘starting to build something’ after an impressive 54-16 victory over Coventry Bears at Borough Park.
The Town head coach still believes there is much more to come from his side but he was delighted with their attacking skills against the Bears which saw them run in 10 tries. Now he is looking for consistency.
“I thought it was a fairly satisfactory performance,” said Thorman. “It’s hard to be too critical as I thought there were patches in the second half especially where we were really looking good and really doing what we’ve practised consistently and relentlessly in training.
“But again I also thought there were periods of time where we didn’t control the ruck as we intended so I still think there is a lot of improvement to come.”
But he was pleased to get the points in the bag and now he just wants to see that improvement continue when they welcome Oldham next weekend, again at the home of Workington Reds, Borough Park.
“I just want us to get better every day,” he added. “I know I’m like a broken record about accumulating good days and today was another good day because of the previous 20 good days we have had so far.
“We have had a couple of blips along the way and we haven’t been perfect but I genuinely feel that we are building something
“But again today will count for nothing if we waste opportunities next week so we have to train well and assess where everybody is from an injury point of view.
“The good news is that there doesn’t appear to be any serious ones from this match and it will be another week closer to Caine Barnes returning. We are almost at full-strength and we will go into next weekend’s home game with Oldham with a bit of confidence.”
