There were mixed results for Wigton ABC on their latest outing.

On Sunday, the club took schoolboy boxer Haydon Newall and senior fighter Jack Pattinson to a show in Wigan.

Newall was boxing a local lad from Majestic Boxing Academy who had taken part in more than double the amount of bouts in his career than Newall had. But Newall wasn’t fazed by his more experienced opponent and boxed brilliantly to win the bout by an unanimous decision.

Next up was Pattinson in a return contest against a Blackrod boxer he had faced the previous week and lost to on a unanimous points decision.

Despite the scores being tied after the first two rounds, it proved to be the same story again as Pattinson was once again edged out.

But Wigton founder and coach Andi Crossman said: “Jack’s conduct in the ring is second to none, living up to our club motto which is ‘Humble in Victory, Gracious in Defeat’.”

Wigton are in action again this week in Gateshead when David Charters will face Adam Pattinson in a return contest from the Cumbrian club’s home show when Charters picked up the win.

Crossman added: “We are hoping to end the season on a high.

"We will then be back out boxing again in September and working towards our home show on November 30.”
