Manager Peter Murphy has warned his Annan Athletic players to expect “a hostile atmosphere” at Clyde, with the Galabankies a game away from promotion to Scottish League One.

Annan have never played in the third-tier of Scottish football, plying their trade in Scottish League Two over the past decade after they were voted into the Scottish Football League in 2008.

But Murphy’s in-form team are now 90 minutes from promotion and hold a 1-0 lead, ahead of tomorrow’s promotion play-off final second-leg tie at the Broadwood Stadium (3pm kick-off).

At Galabank, Chris Johnston scored the only goal in the first leg after Clyde striker David Goodwillie had missed a penalty.

"I think the team is working well together as a whole, they are working really hard," said Murphy, who this week signed a new two-year contract with the Black and Golds.

"But we had a bit of luck because Goodwillie has missed a penalty.

"I’m delighted for Chris Johnston to get another goal. But it’s going to be very tough tomorrow, going to Clyde. I’d say it will be a hostile atmosphere and that’s when our boys will be tested.

"I think it’s a really big challenge, but I’m looking forward to it."

The Bully Wee finished eight points ahead of Annan in the regular league season. But they will now have to come from behind in this two-legged final and Murphy, Carlisle United’s record outfield appearance-maker, believes the pressure will be on Athletic’s opponents.

"It will be an exciting tie, going to a ground where they think they probably should have gone up, so the pressure is on them," said Murphy.

"They have to win the game, we don’t.

"It’s all set-up for a nice final day."

Ahead of their trip to Cumbernauld, Athletic have also won six successive matches and had not beaten Clyde this season before Tuesday’s first-leg clash.

“The players are full of confidence with the run we have been on. I think, when we look at the results against Clyde, we drew with them earlier on in the season when we made a mistake for their goal," said Murphy.

"Then, they have scored two goals in the last minute [in the league clashes at Clyde].

"We are trying to pay attention to those little details and, if we do that, we give ourselves a very good chance."
