Workington Reds have revealed details of their first pre-season friendly of the summer.

Reds will take on National League side and fellow Cumbrians Barrow on July 13 as new boss Danny Grainger looks to prepare his side for the new campaign.

The game will be played at either Derwent Park or Borough Park depending on developments with the proposed new Workington stadium.

The future of the planned ground, which would also house Workington Town, is up in the air after the political landscape changed in West Cumbria in the recent local elections.

Barrow have enjoyed a solid campaign in the fifth tier of English football, finishing 11th in manager Ian Evatt’s first season in charge.

The Holker Street club also announced last week that former Reds striker Nathan Waterston will not be staying for the 2019/20 season.

Grainger will also be taking his first steps into management after leaving League Two club Carlisle United at the end of the season.

He will be looking to mastermind a swift return to the Evo-Stik Northern Premier Division following Reds’ relegation.
