Whitehaven 21 Rochdale Hornets 22: Whitehaven's former player Dan Abram came back to haunt his old club as his last-minute try and conversion for Rochdale Hornets put the Cumbrians out of the Challenge Cup.

Haven looked to be in the hat for the fifth round draw when they led 21-12 with just under 10 minutes remaining but their visitors struck twice in the final couple of minutes to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat to go down 22-21.

Led by former Haven player-coach Carl Forster, Rochdale had a smattering of players very familiar to the Recreation Ground.

But Haven began well with a try as Callum Phillips got on the end of a Sam Forrester kick to touch down and Jake Moore added the extras.

But Rochdale came back with a try from Ben Morris, which Abram converted and the scores were level once more.

A Moore penalty edged Haven back in front and then Rochdale were down to 12 men when Abram was sent to cool his heels in the sin-bin for slowing down the restart.

And it was Haven who extended their lead as Moore stepped the full-back to score and Connor Holliday tagged on the conversion.

But just before the break, their visitors came back again as Declan Kay raced away to score with Abram adding the two-pointer to make it 14-12 as the hooter sounded.

Into the second half and Haven began to edge away with Holliday slotting over two penalty goals before Forrester got himself in a good position to add a drop-goal.

A further penalty from the boot of Moore and Haven were looking good at 21-12 but they had reckoned without the tenacity of the Hornets.

First, Shaun Ainscough found his way over the line wide out but, this time, Abram could not tag on the extras.

But then in the dying seconds, it was Abram who popped up to score under the sticks and add the goal that put Rochdale 22-21 ahead and into the hat for the next round.
