Cleator Moor Celtic celebrated the opening of their new 50-seater stand with a 4-1 victory over Chadderton in the North West Counties League.
The stand was funded by the Football Foundation, Cleator Moor Town Council and keen supporter Jamie Riley who cut the ribbon along with local councillor Joan Hully.
Both sides had chances early on in the league clash but neither was able to capitalise, with both home keeper Craig Rule and the visitors’ Jordan Hadlow making good saves.
It was Tom Mahone who broke the deadlock after a goalmouth scramble when he poked the ball past Hadlow who tried in vain to scoop the ball out.
And the referee’s assistant signalled that the ball had crossed the line.
Four minutes before the break the sides were all square as Jordon Butterworth drilled a penalty past Rule.
In a bright start to the second-half by Celtic a free kick by Thomas Ward was saved and man of the match Callum Birdsall was also denied by the Chadderton keeper.
But from the resultant corner Celtic regained the lead. Ryan Hall hit it long beyond the far post and when it was returned there was Hall to fire home.
With 15 minutes remaining Butterworth was sent off after receiving a second yellow card before a Ward corner was headed in by Jamie Glover.
Right on the whistle a cross from Birdsall was met by Hall who scored with a well-placed header.
Celtic host Aston Town on Saturday (kick off 3pm) and Lower Breck visit the JBV on April 6 with the West Cumbrians travelling midweek (April 9) to face Prestwich Heys.
