Keswick Hockey Club staged three home games and were successful in all of them to continue the club’s excellent start to the season.

The men’s second-team were first on against the now combined Leyland and Chorley team, who started one place above them in the league on goal difference.

They got off to a great start after three minutes when Paul Sloan shot from the right-side of the D, back across the keeper into the left of the goal for the opener.

Chorley responded quickly, only to be foiled by a good save by Keswick’s keeper Dave Harris.

Keswick were soon on the attack again and a run into the box from Mikey Watson saw his shot deflected into his own goal by Chorley’s Dave Stangroom.

The home team went further ahead on 13 minutes through Ryan McCully, and although they created numerous chances, particularly from good work by Charlie Goodwin and Steve Salveson, they could not take any more before the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern with Keswick pressing forward, only to be denied at the last by some good defending, and Chorley responding with counter-attacks, dealt with well by the Keswick defence.

However after 13 minutes, Ross Wright beat three Chorley defenders on a strong run before driving the ball under the diving goalkeeper for the fourth and final goal.

The men’s third-team were on next against Bolton, and it was the visitors who went ahead on five minutes when Fox notched the opener.

The home team had a lot of the club’s younger members playing, and they helped take the game to Bolton, with some good, close passing leading to runs into gaps their passing opened up.

On 12 minutes, Harry King hit his shot perfectly to leave the Bolton keeper flailing at thin air as the ball shot past him to draw the sides level.

Keswick then put the visitors under a period of sustained pressure, resulting in a goal for George Borley, returning to action for Keswick after missing the last few games.

It was the running game of Borley that put more and more pressure on the Bolton defence, allowing his team-mates to capitalise on the spaces he created and Jack Stockdale scored on 34 minutes to make it 3-1 at half-time.

The second half again saw Keswick press the Bolton defence hard, but some resolute defending kept them out until the 20th minute when King shot home for his second. Two minutes later, Borley added his second.

The visitors responded and Butt was able to score their second, but on 27 minutes, Joe Millage scored and Keswick ran out 6-2 winners.

Completing the action, the Ladies' second-team took on Penrith second-team and emerged 6-3 winners, despite conceding an early goal when Emily Jackson beat Mel Avery in the Keswick goal.

Both teams passed the ball well, but if anything, Keswick showed more structured play, with good short passes allied to strong running from Rachel Armstrong and Hannah Rumney which led to a couple of good chances that went just wide.

It was Penrith, however, who doubled their lead just before half-time when Mia Simpson found the back of the net.

Keswick came out after the break with great determination and were rewarded after seven minutes with a goal from Armstrong.

Their forward running now had Penrith on the back foot and they scored again to draw level after 11 minutes with an own goal.

The home side pressed forward and, on 15 minutes, Rumney gave Keswick the lead, turning the ball in from close range.

They kept going and, eight minutes later, Emma Symonds was rewarded for her tireless forward runs with a goal and Keswick were now in control of the game.

They extended their lead on 31 minutes through Lucy Andrews to make it 5-2 but Penrith had fought hard in the poor conditions and pulled a goal back through Gemma Wright two minutes later.

However, it was Keswick who rounded off the scoring a minute later through Holly Milne for a 6-3 victory.
