Workington Veterans Club and Workington Conservative Club are through to the final of the 7-a-side Eric McMullen Memorial Trophy Handicap final.

Vets beat Maryport Social A 4-1 and Cons defeated Flimby Social by the same scoreline to reach the April 24 final.

In the first of the semi-finals Vets started with a victory by Mike Dawson but Paul Alford drew Social level at 1-1. Vets went 3-1 up with wins for Mark Tatton and Steve Garroway then a Kevin Basnett victory took his team through to the final.

The second semi-final begun as Cons won the first three frames with victories from Dave Holland, Ryan Barker and Richard McCarthy.

Richard Kirkham pulled a frame back for the 2015 champions. But the recovery was shortlived and Stuart Shepherd won the fifth frame to propel his team into the final.

The semis-finals of the 7-a-side plate competition also took place. Workington Golf Club ran out 4-3 winners in a competitive match against Workington's United Club.

Mark Carruthers took frame one and with a break of 41 Mark Brasted made it 2-0 to the Golf Club. But United Club were back level with wins for Andrew Mitchelhill and Clive Lister.

An Ian Fulton frame five win put the golfers ahead again but as Mitchelhill and Lister teamed up in the first of the doubles games they pushed the match into a decider.

But Brasted and Phil Sorfleet powered their way to victory to take the Golf Club through to the April 17 plate final.

In the second plate semi-final, and the last game of the week, Workington's Station Road A defeated club rivals Station Road B 4-2 with singles wins for Tom Thompson, Mike Walker, John Teasdale and a double success from Geoff Smith and Keith Telford. Stephen O'Hagan and Shaun Ayre won for Station B.
