Former Carlisle Rugby Club man Chris Harris is set to miss Scotland’s home Six Nations contest against Wales through a calf injury.

Scottish Rugby today announced Carlisle-born Newcastle Falcons centre Harris, alongside Saracens man Sean Maitland, will now return to their respective clubs, rather than prepare for Saturday’s game.

“Scotland backs Sean Maitland (Saracens) and Chris Harris (Newcastle Falcons) have been ruled out of this Saturday’s Guinness Six Nations Test against Wales at BT Murrayfield Stadium through injury,” a statement from Scottish Rugby confirmed.

“The players sustained foot and calf injuries respectively while representing their club sides in the English Premiership last weekend, with insufficient recovery time available to feature in the championship’s penultimate round.

"Maitland and Harris will return to their clubs for ongoing care and assessment.”

Last month, 28-year-old Harris scored his first international try in Scotland’s Six Nations-opening 33-20 triumph over Italy before he signed a two-year contract extension with Newcastle Falcons days later.

Harris qualifies for the Scots through his grandmother.
