Carlisle Cougars ended their season in style with a 24-15 victory against local rivals Kendal Wasps.

It was the Cougars who started the game strongly, with Hannah Sherlock scoring a try that Hannah Farrell converted.

Carlisle’s forward pack were very strong and they overturned a number of Kendal’s scrums throughout the match.

The Wasps, however, capitalised on moments of ill-discipline from Carlisle, and stole the ball a few times. Laura Cunningham then scored the second try for Carlisle, right on the corner flag.

Kendal didn’t drop their heads, though, and piled the pressure on.

It wasn’t long before the Wasps were rewarded with a try for their attacking efforts. And as Kendal kept up their momentum, a great interception saw the Wasps run the ball over the try-line, tightening up the scoreline to 12-10.

After half-time, Carlisle were forced to step up their game as forwards Kim Fitzmaurice and Megan Hurd slowed Kendal in their tracks with some hard tackles.

It wasn’t long before Sherlock powered her way through again to score her second of the day, Farrell converting. The game was far from over, though, when Kendal answered back yet again with another try, taking the score to 19-15.

But it was Carlisle’s winger Louise Langton who secured the win for Carlisle with the fourth try with the success securing the Cougars second place.
