Lee Andrews praised “a perfect away performance” as Workington Reds made it three successive wins on the road.

The 2-0 victory at Marine followed three-pointers at Grantham and North Ferriby, so they now have more points away from home than they have picked up at Borough Park.

Andrews said: “It took us a long time to break our duck at Lancaster on Boxing Day but, since then, we’ve earned these three in a row. I thought it was a perfect away performance.

"We were very solid in the first half and contained them well. When they did get through, Aaran [Taylor] was outstanding.

"He has had some unfair criticism recently but I think this demonstrated just what a very good keeper he is. We were the better side in the second half and deserved the win.

"I had kept the same side after the home defeat by Witton and expected a response – which there was.”

Reds are back at Borough Park tomorrow night when they host league leaders Warrington Town who were involved in a 3-3 home draw with Nantwich on Saturday.

“On paper, it’s a tough one but we tend to play well against the better teams and I’m hoping that will be the case on Tuesday. Goose [Dan Wordsworth] starts a four-match suspension but Sam Smith is ready to return in defence," said Andrews.

“Sam had declared himself fit for Saturday but I just thought he could use another game off."

Reds remain next to bottom after their main rivals in relegation trouble mainly all won. But it looks like developing into a frantic dash for safety as Stalybridge in 13th and those below them could be considered possible candidates to join the doomed North Ferriby.

Reds have eight games left to play at Borough Park and five away from home. Visitors to west Cumbria include two of their rivals – Lancaster and Mickleover, as well as North Ferriby.
