Carlisle boss Steven Pressley ran the rule over former QPR striker Kingsley Eshun in today's reserve friendly at Oldham.

The 19-year-old scored in a 4-3 victory that also saw Mark Cullen and Jason Kennedy gain vital pitch time.

Eshun is available after having his contract cancelled at Loftus Road in January.

The forward, who has had loan spells in non-league with Dulwich Hamlet and St Albans, played the full game at Oldham’s training ground and will spend this week training with the Blues.

He had been on QPR’s books after joining from AFC Wembley, having previously been with Brentford’s youth set-up.

January striker signing Cullen, meanwhile, played for 62 minutes as he bids to put himself in contention for a starting place after injury.

Midfielder Kennedy also stepped up his return by completing another 90 minutes, getting on the scoresheet in the eighth minute.

Eshun added to United’s tally on 59 minutes, with their third goal a close-range effort disputed by Cullen and Kennedy.

Youth team player Taylor Charters then struck the winner on 85 minutes, Jonathan Benteke (two) and Sonhy Sefil scoring for the hosts.

First-team players Mike Jones, George Glendon, Liam McCarron and Louis Gray also featured for the Cumbrians.

United: Gray, Kelly, Casson (Birch 64), Branthwaite, Brockbank, Glendon, Jones, Kennedy, Eshun, Cullen (Charters 62), McCarron. Not used: Ward, Lightfoot.
